Is Discover More luv button a hard pull?

Discover More just offered me 0% balance transfer for 12 months.  I thought this would be a great opportunity to get 0% financing on some dental work I'm having done.  At the same time, I want to have credit available for other purchases during that time so I'm considering requesting a CLI using the luv button with the reason being "balance transfer."  Will this result in a hard pull?  Would I be better off requesting this over the phone?  Thanks for your help.

Initially it isn't.  But if you don't received an instant CLI, they'd have to pull your credit report and it will be a HP.

Re: Is Discover More luv button a hard pull?

From what I've read on the forums, it varies depending on how you use it.  You can put in for an increase of however much you'd like to try for and the system will either accept the amount or not - if it accepts it's a soft pull, if it doesn't accept but you continue the process it would be a hard pull.

However, I believe (from what I've read) that you can click "cancel" (clicking cancel is important) if it doesn't accept your amount and try again.  I don't know how much time (if any) needs to be left between tries.

Re: Is Discover More luv button a hard pull?

When I got an increase earlier this year the site asked how much i wanted and for what purpose. I requested $1500 CLI and put in BT as the purpose. They came back and said we can approve X. If you would like more then we MAY have to pull a credit report. There was a continue button to go to an analyst and an accept button for what was offered. May have also been a cancel button to totally decline the process I don't recall. Anyway I accepted. Funny thing is the approved amount was the $1500 I asked for.Smiley Very Happy I don't know if I could have gotten more. No concern with them. I'll try again at 6 months. And BTW, I never did do the BT. The offer still shows up on my account for 0% for 12 months.

it will depend on the amount requested (probably by percentage) and continuing thru the process it will tell you whether or not it is a hard inquiry and then it will ask if you want to continue.
