I had 2 cards with due dates of 5/20 both Synchrony accounts which I paid around 8am this morning. After midnight as I always do I log in to see if my account has been updated. I logged in to Paypal to find a $25 late fee and I called immediately and was told their system doesn't immediately recognize same day payments and once the payment posts the late fee will drop off. I decided to log into my Amazon and there was a late fee there as well. I'm wondering if this is somehow illegal I can't imagine this somehow being one of those class action suits in the future.
This is my first time paying my payments on the due date I usually pay in advance. Has anyone else experienced this with Sync Bank? I am really confused by this I was told by both companies that once the payment posts it will post with the correct date and the late fee is automatically reversed. Anytime I have paid the next day after midnight the system updates so why not the same practice when paying on due date? I can understand if the payments were made after a cutoff time which is probably after 5pm or something, but they were made before 9am. Should have posted with no problem.
The best advice I can give you is that you swallow that pain pill, learn the lesson and get in the habit of paying your bills before they are due. I generally plan to make my payments as soon as I see a statement, and in few cases within a week of seeing the statement. Often times some credit cards will not post your payment for several days. If this has only happened once, most creditors have been graceful and agree to remove the late fee. I hope they will for you. At least this will not report derrog on your CR.
My shell cc actually has a statement on their webpage. It says if you are paying on your due date, you will see a late fee, but after a day it will drop of your account when the system catches up.
As a rule of thumb I always pay 10 days before the due date, you never know what might go wrong!
The due date was 5/20/15 there's no reason for any payment to be considered late if you are paying it on the due date. The problem is their system is set up this way which no other company is.
This is my first time paying anything on the due date and it is my last. It's like paying a landlord on the 1st and he/she saying you owe a late fee. When I spoke to them they did assue me the payment is actually not late, but I will never wait again.

Doesn't really matter. If you're incurring late fees from paying on the due date then you need to make adjustments on your end to avoid them. As stated above, it's just how their system works. You can't assume that all creditors are identical.

Class action suits only benefit the attorneys.

Not really something to worry about.
Just a poorly implemented system.
This.
Synch is just generally slow all the way around.
My Best Buy though Citi is this way. If I pay on the due date after 5pm, I get hit with a late fee and then it is reversed a day or two later and before the statement cuts.
