I was recently approved for an Amex plus and a Visa preferred rewards card from usaa. The Amex has a $15k sl and the Visa a $10k starting limit. I was messing around on my account page and wandered into the pending cards page and noticed I had four Visa cards all with different numbers coming to me in the mail. I noticed I had two showing up in my account section but figured it was just my au card showing up. I opened a chat with usaa and come to find out I have two Visa accounts opened each with a $10k limit and each with an au for a total of four cards. When I applied for the cards I did it back to back each on the same day. One of my visas was opened the next day though. I don't need or want two accounts but am worried about the affects on my credit score of closing an account that was just opened. I'm also worried about the affects on my relationship with usaa. I know I didn't apply for another card and it's not fraud bc they are coming to my house. I know in the future I will want a limitless so I'm also worried about how having this much credit opened with them will affect my ability to qualify for that card when it reaches my state. They couldn't help me online and told me to call in but I'm sure it's going to be the same question. Do you want us to close the account? Should I? I honestly can't believe they approved me for $35k in credit to begin with. Advice?
I applied for two accounts total, one Amex and one Visa. I was told I have an extra Visa that was opened the next day which I thought was odd. I have one hard pull on experian only so far. Usaa usually pulls eq but since it's an Amex I think that's why it was pulled on exp so I might not know for sure for a while if I got multiple pulls on different bureaus for the visas. I really don't mind the multiple visas but I don't want them to hinder my ability to get future usaa products like the limitless or other credit cards outside of usaa. $35k is a lot of credit especially since usaa only gies you a max of $50k total.
The fact that it is an Amex woud have no bearing on the CRA they pull - Yes, Ex is used by Amex for Amex issued cards, however the ones that are issued by partner banks will pull whatever that particular bank used (not necessarily Ex)
It looks like it's one pull then for three cards which is insane to me. Especially for the amount. The only problem is I started wanting the limitless card which I found out later isn't in my state yet. That is the card I still want and hope this extra account doesn't hinder my chances of getting it. I'm thinking if I have to take the hit now to my credit/ relationship with usaa then I might as well get it over with now so I'm good later. Only way to find out is to call I guess.
Maybe keep the card, and PC that one when the limitless becomes available for you?

No PC for USAA unfortunately
DW apped for an Amex with them and it hit an error page.
After the third attempt it came back that she hit the app limit.
2 Amex cards arrived in the mail a week or so later both with the 5% gas offer.
5% back on 6k at gas stations is pretty sweet along with the 3k on Freedom/Discover.
We use a lot of gas....
Ok so I called and this gets interesting. So I applied for the Amex and the Visa on the 18th together right. They say they have me applying for a second Visa on the 19th. The weird part is they didn't have my application for the Visa on the 18th only the one on the 19th, the one I didn't even apply for. They have a record of me having both accounts just not two applications. Sooo...my options were to keep both accounts open since closing one of them would hurt my credit or...they didn't know so they had to figure it out and call me back. They noticed I had a chat with them on the 19th with them but can't see the transcript. I look it up and remember it was about my checking account, getting a new debit card, checks, and a new signature card for my checking account to send back. I tell the girl that I wonder if the person I was chatting with somehow thought in some plausible but highly unlikely way that I meant a Visa signature card instead of a checking account signature card? She thinks she probably did think that even though our conversation had nothing to do with it but to hold and she would figure it out. So she ends up calling me back with the best solution to not affect my credit and get the card closed. She was going to open up a fraud dispute, fill in what happened, and send it in that way so they can cancel the card without it affecting my credit report. I agree, but in thinking now it is totally benefiting them also bc they don't have to admit one of there people screwed up. I should know in three business days what happens. FYI I did try to get them to pc the card to a limitless but they don't do that. 😉
I might have been more open to keeping both accounts if I got both Amex but I have no use for double 1.5% visas. 5% on 6k would be nice. 😉
