What will happen to the toys r us mastercard?

I have read that typically when a store goes out of business their credit cards are closed.  Will this be the case for the toys r us mastercard?

Yes

However ....

If ToysRUs somehow finds a buyer, then the new owner could keep the card alive. See threads on HHGregg

Re: What will happen to the toys r us mastercard?

They had no buyer. They were liquidated, however synchrony converted the cards to a generic home card, I guess they had enough of a card base to be able to do that.
NFCU $60.4k/PenFed $22.5k/Commerce $15K/53 $11K/Synovus $14K/BBT $11K/CapOne $12K/DCU $7.5K/BMO $7.5K/Chase $14.5k/Cabelas $10K/ and many many more!
Total CL $398600, plus car and RV loan.
Ooh. Ooh. Getting closer to that $500K mark!

I literally just got an email from them saying that the Mastercard will still be able to be used any location where MasterCard is accepted.  Here is a copy of the section of the email:

You are welcome to continue to use your card at Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us stores and wherever Mastercard® is accepted if you have an “R”Us Mastercard.* However, the following benefits have been discontinued:
10% Off Thursdays
Earning reward points and redeeming “R”Us Reward Dollars on purchases
Special Financing offers on future purchases
All coupons (regardless of expiration date)

I received an email today about the card, essentially telling me what I akready knew. lol

So I'm guessig this was just a formality. It also stated that further communications regarding the future of the card would continue as they know more.

They did say that I could still use it though. As if

Re: What will happen to the toys r us mastercard?

As reported in this thread ... Target Stores and others are seriously considering the purchase of Toys R Us (reported a couple of days ago). So ... the outcome is up in the air.

Re: What will happen to the toys r us mastercard?

Some cards end without a lot of fanfare - when CompUSA shut down, the cards couldn't be used elsewhere.

I was a little surprised that the HH Gregg card was converted to the Synchrony "Home" card.  The HH Gregg could only be used in their stores.

I wouldn't argue if Synchrony converted the Toys R Us into something else... to keep the age of accounts, possibly save a hard inquiry for a card I might want instead.

A tip for folks who have the dual card...  if it hasn't been used in a while - use it for a small purchase, so that it doesn't get closed for inactivity.

I was going to garden... Honest!
