cc clarification

I was recently approved for a secured credit card through Orchard Bank.  My limit will be $300.  I haven't had a credit card in years, after foolish financial management on my part (with some help from my ex!)  I've read all the helpful threads and check in with the posts each week.  I know to keep my utilization under 10%, and as this is my only credit card, that means under $30.  My question is whether it makes sense to set up a recurring charge on this card each month, and pay it off (For instance maybe TIVO and Scorewatch) or to make random charges on it and pay it off?

Also, I have some confusion if I'm supposed to pay the company before I get the bill in the mail or not.

Thanks for any help you can offer.  The only other open account I have is my car loan - which is new from this summer (with a co-signer).  My scores are in the mid-660's, but with some baddies still waiting to fall off (all paid in full before I found this site.)

Re: cc clarification

Manage your debt, not your FICO. Unless you are anticipating a loan in the near future- I would not worry about 'tweaking' your FICO score. As far on waiting for the bill in the mail- I almost exclusively do everything online- I can get almost real time account activity and often time pay in full before the billing cycle- just to avoid finance charges.  660 is a decent score- you should see if you can expidite the fall off of the bads.
