how long will amex allow a credit balance

I bought some stuff through dell, they put a pending charge of the full amount of $6k, so I paid it off. The pending charge dropped a few days later, same time the payment posted. Computer already shipped and it has been 6 days now since the hold fell off. Will amex let me keep the credit on there as long as I want? I would hate for them to refund it by mail, then dell post a charge and look like I maxed out my card.
