? on how paypal transactions code to CC

Specifically:

I have a vacation booked for July which falls in Discovers 5% cashback on Summer Fun so it should count for that from what I've read on here.

Problem is the agency I booked thru only takes visa and mc.   They said they would accept paypal as well.   So I COULD use my Discover to fund the paypal transaction right?

If so, would it simply reflect 'paypal" and not count towards rewards or would it still reflect a travel related charge?

Any purchase processed by PayPal is labeled as "Professional Service". PayPal does not carry over any MCC (category system used by Visa & MC).

You will NOT earn any bonus reward with PayPal.

Also, travel related charges usually only counts when booked directly from airliners, hotel, theme park, etc. Not middle man like travel agency.

Re: ? on how paypal transactions code to CC

What the 2nd poster said about "professional service" is untrue.  Merchants who have their own websites and have a link to pay with paypal will have proper merchant coding.  For example, you can pay walmart with paypal.  All purchase made are processed to the proper category for walmart.  I have verified this with Chase in the past and if it is a merchant using paypal then they will have the proper coding.  If you are paying a travel agent via their paypal account though, it will come up as professional services.  Hope this clears it up and corrects the 2nd poster who is wrong.
