ASSET ACCEPTANCE Collection

We have a COLLECTION account with Asset Accptance that was from a Target credit card. We want negotiated a settlement amount that was about half of what we owed and are happy with that.

My question is can I assume that Asset Accpetance actually owns the debt? They show up on the credit agencies as owning the debt.

A few years ago we had a collector trying to collect on an old debt and it turns out that they did not even own it.

Thanks in advance

Re: ASSET ACCEPTANCE Collection

Is Target reporting also?  If they are does it say the debt was sold/transferred and reporting a 0 balance?
