A few weeks ago, I had an inquiry show up on my Transunion CR from a collection agency I had never heard of before. Interestingly, all 3 of my CRs are FROZEN yet, this collection agency HARD pulled my CR easy as you please. I wrote a complaint online to the Better Business Bureau and, thank God, they took care of the situation. I received an e-mail just this morning telling me that they (the BBB) had contacted the collection agency and told them to remove the inquiry from my TU report and they (the BBB) included the letter in their e-mail to me that they received back from the collection agency.
Bottom line -- the inquiry is GONE and the collection agency apologized to me.
Conclusion -- Using the BBB online complaint system WORKS!!!
That's encouraging to read. There IS hope.
that's great!! Heck, ever since BBB helped me out with the nightmare that was LVNV, they are my new best friend.
So glad they were able to help with that for ya!

Did the CA state that they either pulled your report by mistake, or that the debt was invalid ?
This was the letter the CA wrote in response to the BBB:

All you have to do is go to the BBB website in the state of the offending collection agency. I live in California, however, the offending collection agency was located in Amherst, NY, so I searched online (through Google) for the BBB in Amherst, NY. On their website I clicked on the link: I want to file a complaint. From there, it was a matter of filling in the blanks and then, finally, there's a box where you can describe the situation you are complaining about. I said that the collection agency (IAG LLC) had somehow accessed my FROZEN Transunion credit report without permissible purpose and, I wanted the inquiry that resulted from their HARD pull deleted. I also requested that they be denied all further access to my credit report.
After completeing the online complaint form, I hit the submit button and, the next time I checked my e-mail, a few minutes later, the BBB had sent me an e-mail saying they had received my complaint and would be getting back to me shortly with their results. I filed the online complaint on February 27th, and got the results this morning that the inquiry is GONE.
This was a MOST IMPRESSIVE experience!
