DOFD Question

So the DOFD is the date in which the late payments started occruing that caused the account to be charged off correct? I had an MBNA credit card that I opened in 1996 and was never able to use it after 2001 because stopped making payments. In 2004, MBNA kept harassing my parents as well as myself about not making payments so I went on a payment plan to shut them up (stooooooopid I know) where they drafted around $60/m out of my checking account for a year.

Shouldn't the DOFD be from the date I was no longer able to use the card instead of when it was charged off (May 2005)? Since I was hundreds of dollars past due from all the over the limit and late fees, I don't see how paying $50/m would bring it up to date when the balance was over $4,000,
