First Response from a Collection Agent

$50 collection from 5 years ago that I just disputed online just recently. It turned out to be a mistake to top it all off (more of a misunderstanding). Which is why I figured a dispute would be my first course of action.

He just left me a message on my phone: "Hi Johnny, I received your dispute across my desk. I'm willing to do what it takes to settle this debt. Why don't you call me up and see if we can settle this?"

To be honest, it sounds like he's willing to either ignore the  dispute and let it drop or delete it. Sounds a little bit like blackmail, but I don't care. For 50 bucks, I'm willing to get this out of my life. I know people say not to call creditors or collection agencies and to conduct business by phone, but this sounds like a short term opportunity to get it off quick? Thoughts?
