Re: Military Service?

I am a true blooded Marine and despite the fact that we are under the department of Navy, we are a separate and very elite branch. Given how small we are in numbers, we have much higher accomplishments than branches that are 10 times the size. Now that being said, we are all serving the same purpose, our country and as far as I am concerned, I don't care what uniform you wear, if you fight honorably, serve honorably, and look out for your fellow man, you have my respect. After all, we all bleed the same when the sh*t hits the fan, don't we? and we all have the same flag patched on our arms, don't we? There should never be division amongst ourselves when the enemy at the gate is waiting for us to turn on each other, united we stand, divided we fall. Just saying, its no different than parents showing a unified front to the children, even if they disagree with each other's methods. To all who serve, live or die, I consider you my brothers and sisters, and that will not be defined by which uniform you put on. Friendly rivalries aside, we are all on the same side.

Hopefully you did not read more into the post than was intended because it seems you got a little defensive.  I have been a member of the military for 24 years, 181/2 of that in the Air Force.  I have heard all the jokes, put downs, etc, not just about the Air Force and Army.  I have never taken any of them seriously and I do not get offended that easily.  I also have a very good sense of humor.  I can dish it out as well as take it.

I have worked with every branch of the military,  in some fashion.  Currently I work with Army, Navy and Canadians.

Our mission is the same and we work side by side to get that mission accomplished.

I have the utmost respect for every branch of the military.

Re: Military Service?

I am sorry if it seemed that I was being defensive but I was actually trying to represent all sides and point out the common ground we all walk. I have a great sense of humor and you have to with all the ugliness in the world. So please don't take what I said as defensive or anything personal, in fact my intentions were quite the opposite. I wanted to focus on our commonality which unites us rather than the differences that we, like you said, joke about and throw at each other because of perceived differences arising out of "pack" mentality that is inherent in any grouping.

And if you want to upset a British Marine, either call him a soldier, or just say "and a little child shall lead them"  Smiley Very Happy

The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Re: Military Service?

It wasn't funny the first time that you posted this, MV and it's not funny this time either (I honestly don't care if Kipling published it or not).
