Understanding FICO® Scoring

On the CR my mortgage broker pulled today, it listed a "Fraud Alert".  What does that mean? Is it going to screw my chances of getting a loan?

Also, what the heck is a HAWK (other than a species of large, predatory bird...)?

Hi Tuscani,

I managed to locate some information on the web about this.  The info came from www.bad-credit-advisor.com/hawk-alert.html .

Apparently, the Fraud Alert is part of the normal check they do on a CR.  In regards to the term "Hawk Alert" which came from Transunion,  it said there are three possible annotations:

1. "AVAILABLE AND CLEAR" means no fraudulent activity has been found, sometimes same message can be read as - your application processing will continue.
2. "INPUT SSN USED IN DEATH BENEFITS ..." - that means someone used Social Security Number belonged to a deceased person.
3. "... ADDRESS IS COMMERCIAL" means that non-residential address was used.

Also where it said "SPELLING OF INPUT NAME DID NOT MATCH OFAC LIST" means that our names did not appear on the fraud list...so we're good all the way around!
