Password character requirements

I find it very wrong that this company says they care about security to the point that I can't reset my own password, yet they do not allow special characters in a password.  It's no wonder I keep forgetting my password, since my standard algorithm for a password uses special characters and I have to make an exception for you.

Seems like there are still quite a few places that I can't create a password with special characters ~ not sure of the reason why but perhaps one our admins can come up with an answer for us. I'm sure there's a valid technical reason for not allowing it.
