Re: Adventures in Financing a 10+ Year Old Car

That is a sharp looking car @mgood .

Many Local CU finance vehicles older than 10 years.  (I got a 48 month loan on a 11 year old high mileage truck from my CU.)

IIRC, Lighstream was an arm of SunTrust which has merged with BB&T.

Thanks.
Yes, I think it says "SunTrust dba Lightstream," or something along that line.

In May of 2020 they turned me down when I asked for $26k. Four years later in May of 2024 I was instantly approved for almost double that, $49k.
So the work I've done on my credit has paid off.

PenFed Credit Union did approve me for the loan, but they wanted to pay with a two-party check, which the dealer would not accept.

I know you don't want to hear the truth, but the reality is this..if you are taking a personal loan for 100% on a 12 year old toy that you don't need, you will always be paycheck to paycheck and broke.  toys are fine, but you should pay cash for it....don't say you have the money to pay for it, as we know that's not true as nobody with 25% of a brain would take a 9% loan on a not needed toy like this.  so you do you..stay broke and in debt.

You write in absolutes, something which are rarely absolutely true.  From my perspective, paying cash for a toy versus financing it is not smart; the smarter play is to leave the money for the toy invested (or invest it if it isn't already) and then borrow the money.

You have no idea why I filed for bankruptcy so your comment is utterly and completely irrelevant.  The fact is, you gave bad advice.
