Re: Cap One Auto pre-qual

Cut and pasted from HMW Post

If you firmly insist that they just take up the Capital One deal, bring them a printout of your page from the Capital One site with your approval code, and you should only see the HPs from Capital One.  They MUST run your credit even though you are already approved, as it is required by the Patiot Act and by their best practices to check up on you and verify your identity and credit information.

I would kindly disagree with some of the information in this advice listed.

1. The Cap1 Navigator is a SP (we agree)

2. The Dealer will have to run credit for Cap 1 for final approval (we agree)

3. They MUST run your credit as it is required by the Patriot Act (this is not correct).  Granted, the easiest way for a dealer to comply with the Patriot Act is to run your credit. However, there are others ways a dealer can ensure they are not providing financing to a terrorist (a simplified explanation of the Patriot Act). For instance if you show up with a cashiers check, your own financing or do a wire transfer, the dealer does not have to run your credit to comply with the Patriot act. For instance when I bought my truck recently, the dealership did not run my credit as I brought in my Penfed check.

It may seem like splitting hairs but the only reason the dealer MUST run the credit in this example is to get final approval for Cap1.

I got my 2017 Nissan Maxima via COAF. I'd recommend them.
