I received a pre-approval for up to 30K on a new or used from Capital One today.
My question is this: the rate and details are not on the pre-approval. So, if I were to plug in my preapproval number on thier website, does that generate a hard pull?
I am curious to what they are offering, we need a new car soon and plan to shop in the next few months anyways. But I am not ready to take the hard pull until we start officially shopping and can have them all grouped together.
How did you go about getting the preapproval from Capital One with a Soft Pull? Was it just mailed to you without you asking or did you go through their application process?

It came through the mail - which is odd because I am opted out. But, i have two capital one credit cards. Low limits/credit steps. The first notice I received from them was a few weeks back, it wasnt a pre-approval, just a notice that they offer blank check. They soft-pulled me on 7/17 as an account review, and I got the pre-approval in the mail yesterday.

You may or may not actually get approved for the 30k, the "up to" part does not mean that is a for sure thing, but it should be close i would think. Overall my experience with them was fairly painless. They did require pay statements for a month or so, along with bank statement as i recal (could be wrong on that - been awhile). The rate they offer you will depend on your credit and length requested.
It came with terms and conditions regarding items needed (check stubs) and things that would disqualify me like jumbo mortgage, past due mortgage, etc. I am more interested in the interest rate they are offering, because the pre-approval does not state the rate. But I dont want a hard pull

Did you opt out of Captial One specifcally through the website or was it in the National Registry? If it was the National, then a business you have a business relationship with can still send you solicitations.
I`m willing to be that if you do take them up on the offer, that they will HP you then. If you do and they dont -- please keep us informed because then you have just found a good way around the HP situation. ![]()

Ya I am not going to chance it. I have too many balances right now, so Im not in the best position. Plus I have a bunch of new inquiries from rebuilding so we really are trying to wait a few months.
I will bet that cap one will triple pull if I attempt to accept thier offer........ eeek
