Credit union

im not sure where to put this. But I was wondering do credit unions do a hard pull just to open a bank account with them? I main reason would be to build some history with them before I try to get a auto loan from them. Which would prob be sometime next year. Thanks

Re: Credit union

I'm sure that there will be differences however most would not do a HP on your credit.  To open an account many will use chexsystems to review if you owe money from your past bank accounts such as bounce check activity, etc, but will not pull your credit, when you are just opening a checking account.  Again, all CU will be different so just ask them if they will pull your credit when you open a checking or savings account.

Re: Credit union

Depends on the CU. NFCU will HP TU for membership and HP EQ for credit products.

Re: Credit union

I think you'll find that most credit unions do a HP for membership.  One notable exception is NASA.

Not to change the subject..........but I can feel your pain!  I'm doing everything to stay in the garden.  Been there for 2 months & feel likes it's been a year already!  Only 16 months to go. Smiley Indifferent

Re: Credit union

My local credit union does not pull credit. I was rather pissed when DCU pulled me without so much as letting me know they would. I recommend actually using your local CU vs these ones trying to be big banks like DCU or penfed. I mean if DCU can now sponsor their own arena in Mass then they're no longer serving the mission of a credit union in my eyes.

Most credit unions will pull your credit.  DCU is no exception and they made it very clear to me that they were pulling my credit for an auto loan.  And if they didn't it'd be your responsibility to make sure before you completed an application.  I see no correlation between sponsoring an arena and being able to serve as a very good credit union.   It's advertisement, nothing more, nothing less.

Re: Credit union

I'm a member of two local Federal Credit Unions.  Neither of them pulled my credit for membership.  But DCU did.  They're a big outfit, and they don't let everybody in.  I got in and took the hit just to have options for car loans because I always know their rates will be very competitive.  I don't do DD, but I have them pull some $$ from my local credit union every payday to go into my checking and savings accounts. I'll use that in the future for a down payment if I decide to finance with them.
