Re: Help!!!

WebHopper, you make great points. What you fail to recognize is the smiles on my kids faces when we hook up and head out to the wilderness for some family time. I think you could make a case for saving versus spending on nearly every expenditure, but value is what an individual (or family) see in something. For us, it was worth it to get stuck with a high interest rate for 5 months in order to give our children long-lasting memories, as well as saving for their future and our family's financial security. Was it the most sound financial move? Absolutly not. However, I was not looking for validation from you, because I don't need it.

Your post otherwise makes sense. However, is it common to lose quite so many points? We've had our troubles, sure, but we were on our way up, and had no idea that we'd drop so far!!! And this was a re-fi that happened in October, 5 months after the initial loan. It is confounding to us.

As I mentioned, we needed a new vehicle. You may want to sit down, WH, because we financed it!!! I went to Capital One and got their "blank check" for $36000. We found a great minivan at our local dealer and put 8k down and will only finance $24000ish. Our rate is 7.1. Not great, but I figure we're bound to get a refi in a year or so.

But this begs the question, if it happened with our RV re-fi, will it happen with our vehicle??? (I ask that you just answer the question, not lecture me or chastise our purchase)

Appreciatively,

Coach

Re: Help!!!

Congrats on the vehicle! 7% is nowhere near 15% so this is a good thing!!   Your score will likely drop again because of the account age... It will level off once the new accounts age a little, and you get some good positive history.

I guess we come from different places with different ways of taking care of our families. I have a 10 yr old and she was born when I was 19. I had to live on beans and rice, on some occasions I didn't have the money to feed us, so I donated plasma for $40 dollars to get us by. We lived in a rental trailer in a not so nice trailer park, and i can remember not using the hot water heater during the summer so that we could save on utilities. We lived about 4 yrs this way while I finished school. I had 3 jobs and was taking a full load of classes. Perhaps this traumatic experience has shaped my view of money in an unhealthy way, but I vowed to make sure I finished college and I make sure that I'll always be able to feed us no matter what!

I'm glad you got to take your kids on the vacation!

We've done some cool things, We like to go to Branson, and two years ago we went to Galveston. I don't have my daughter a lot in the summer, so its hard to plan for a vacation involving her. We may end up going on an alaskan cruise this June. I'll only have 8 more yrs til she is grown, so I definately want to do some special things with her. And I feel good about the amount of money I've got set aside, and the insurance I have just in case something happens to me, she'll be well taken care of. I guess you and I have different ways of taking care of our families, and thats ok!!
