Been a while since I've made a post about an approval but wanted to share some info for others.
I have purchased most of cars from Navy but kept hearing great comments from Penfed and their auto loans. I've been a customer of penfed for over 4 years and they have been great. Have PCR $25k CL and a Travel Visa with $12k CL. They also approved me for a personal loan for $23k over a year ago too.
I couldn't make my mind if I wanted a truck or a muscle car lol.
About the application process-
Before it started I used the calculator they have and entered a possible amount and down payment and came out to $44k and some change. Started the app and I checked the box where I didn't have vehicle info and noticed when I got to the end of the app it never asked me how much I needed, so I thought "oh well I guess they'll tell me what I can get". Well I hit submit and it took over 5 mins and thought it froze. Came back Approved for the $44k and some change. So that "calculator" at the beginning IS the actual amount it uses for the app. I opted for the bank draft and drove out to Dallas where I live and picked it up. Was just like navy with the bank draft. Found a dealer (in Oklahoma lol) with the car I wanted (opted for the muscle car - 2021 Chevy Camaro ZL1 with 1LE package 6 speed manual).
was very easy and made the car buying process enjoyable since I was in and out. No waiting. BTW that car is def not $44k lol. I had a sizable down payment already but needed the 44k bumped to $50k, which penfed did with ease, just called and they did it on the phone before I picked up the draft.
DPs-
Loan amount $50k at 4.89 with 84 months
Pulled EQ (as usual) 725 F8
23 INQ
17% Util
I have multiple auto loans too (wife has a car that I co-signed for her and a daily driver car for myself).
Love the purchase too. The car is a beast ![]()
for those not farmiliar it's basically a corvette engine with 650 horse power supercharged in a camaro's body ![]()

Wow! That sounds as if it will be a lot of fun, a little bit of reminiscing of past times and many new experiences and memories to make, Congratulations on a smooth experience and a great approval!
Congrats but 84 months on a loan... Ouch! The rate isnt the best either, but expect higher rate at 84 months i suspect. Have a few CU's offering me 1.7@60 months. As long as you are happy though that is all that matters! Use to have a loan with penfed as well for auto was 60 months at about 70k think rate at time was 2.2 or something that was years ago before they raised their auto loan rates which aren't bad but many other people can easily beat them now.
@CreditCuriosity ...
...1.7% at 60 months apr...👏 that sounds amazing, congrats on the offers!
Please share a name or two of credit unions that offer this rate? I will definitely research them if names are provided.
Thanks! 👍

@Credit4Growth Few out there but here is a few screen shots from Redstone FCU on a pre-approval.. Have another one around 1.7ish as well trying to remember the CU, but here is a start, they exist!![]()
Congrats and enjoy the new ride!
congrats on new ride
pen fed pulled EQ F9 for me, i wasnt aware they used F8 as well......your loan seems consistent with mine....i had 45k @ 4.19% 72 months and my score was 739......my F8 score was considerably lower
@atst2000 Congrats on the purchase! Whew, that's one slick rig you got yourself there. As one who also has an unhealthy need for power and speed, I totally get it. I've went with PenFed for several auto loans. My current auto loan is with them and I agree, the process is extremely easy. Chrysler's captive is Santander and I don't hate myself enough to even remotely get involved with them. If you don't mind posting a pic of that beauty I'd love to see it. I haven't seen a new ZL1 on the road yet.
I'm finally talked my wife into being okay with me getting a new Charger Hellcat last year. The thing is a beast. I went with Octane Red (same as my 392) and blacked it out at 0% all the way around. I've done a couple of mods and it's even louder now. I'm sure my neighbors hate me!
I thought I was going to trade in my previous Charger but couldn't bring myself to do it. So my Hellcat has a little brother, my '18 392 Scat Pack. I'll eventually get rid of it but I certainly wasn't going to let my local Chrysler dealer rob me on a trade.
Anyway, congrats on your purchase! Enjoy that new ZL1 and no matter where go, take the LONG way. LOL!!!
Congrats OP! Shoot if I knew you were in Dallas, you could have picked my car up for me and saved me a trip. lol
@CreditCuriosity yeah and those preapprovals from Redstone are true soft pull approvals like Penfed. No HP when you get an auto loan through them with that preapproval. Some CUs or banks have the same wording, but still HP your credit when its all said and done.
CC Redstone loves you!! Thats a terrific rate!! Mine isn't that low with them.
