I have been looking at getting into a newer car recently, and originally applied for a loan through Penfed this Monday for $44k (72m, 4.79% apr). Pre-approved, then actual approval after an hour. Another salesman ended up selling the car under my salesman while I was going through the application process with Penfed. So, I called Penfed to withdraw the application on Wednesday. Found a similar vehicle, same price, reapplied today, still getting pre-approved, but now I'm getting denied after they review the application.
My only guess is maybe they're doing another hard pull and my credit reports may have updated balances since the Monday hard pull and now I'm getting denied. I plan on calling them tomorrow during business hours to see what's up, but has anyone had this happen before with them?
Hi, did you ever have luck? I'm dealing with this now. I opened up a gold card may 1. I mistakenly thought it was the pathfinder card not BT so called penfed and asked if I could move that approval over and they told me no, just reapply. I reapped and got declined for not long enough history. I then a week later did a preapproval for an auto loan, which their system is also difficult now. They require you to enter in different number amounts based on the price of the car which results in new app id numbers. Once I was preapproved, I called in and asked next steps. They said that it's good for 30 days and if I needed a little more to just call once I had the vin. Started at 55k and choose terms and rate. Dealer called to give vin and mileage and they approved the increase to 57,435. Rep had me login to penfed to accept the new terms since the payment changed. Before hanging up, the dealer asked the rep about any contingencies or stips. The rep said there were none and that IF they needed anything, like POI they'd reach out before allowing me to pick terms or offer a rate which I also got their lowest ones for 72 and 84 month options, which was based on my credit tier. Friday after this, I got notification from penfed stating they needed additional info. When i logged in, its asking me for the name and address of the dealer, exact sale price and explained they snail mail 2 party checks. The system even said they owed me $106 because the approval was 106 higher. then what i got the sales guy down to. Yesterday, I call in to ask about next steps and whether they'd send me a check for the overages. That rep appeared to app me for THEIR AUTO PURCHASE PROGRAM and after I realized it was another app, I made sure to tell her no and we are only talking about app id xxx which they asked me for the dealers info, sales price and reg info. Then I get a call saying it's been declined due to not having long enough relationship (legit copied and pasted from cc pathfinder denial). When I explain my confusion and why, they backtalk and say prequal and preapproval are the same. Get a manager who says the same thing. This morning I wake up to see no denial and showing that app id xxx was NEVER PROCESSED AND WITHDRAWN instead. I call back now and get ran around saying it was conditionally approved with only needing the vin and their threshold is 125% of base model. When I explain about being at dealer then they said there were conditions and I asked when is the customer notified? They said they do that BEFORE TERMS AND RATES ARE ISSUED. When I stated my utter confusion again she said they don't fully approve it, they approve with conditions but yet there's no conditions in the system other than the vin. Now, I've put deposit down, dealer ordered the car expecting this to be done with check being issued based on our call Friday and Monday and now the wrong app id was withdrawn and I have no denial and the 2 ppl I talked to have no clue either because they keep saying contradicting things
