I made my first payment. I sort of expected a lot of it to go toward interest, which it did. I'm just wondering if this is common and most auto loans, esp since i have poorer credit, or if its an issue with this bank. Also, how long can i expect this interest to be the bulk of my payment?
It's going to depend on your interest rate. People with low interest rates will have the bulk of their payments go to principal from the very beginning. Those with higher interest rates may have to make a year's worth of payments (or more) until the amount going to principal exceeds the interest payments.
You can figure out when it's going to happen to you by plugging your loan information into an auto loan amortization calculator. There's several on the web; I've used the one at Bankrate.
