Is Salamander still showing the account as open? That would be the only reason why I would think it would still be a negative account, as charge~offs are supposed to drop at 7.5 years from DOFD, which would have to be prior to the 2004 chareoff.

If they are still reporting the account as being open then it will remain on your credit report. It's not clear to me if you are saying that the account is showing closed or open status. Has it ever showed on your other credit reports?
I just did that lets see what happens.
Thanks for your help.
Sorry if i am being confusing. I am unsure how to answer you question no where does it say open or closed it says charged off. In the Status section it says Account Charged off
If you are looking at your report from Experian.com, under each creditor name & address there is a field called Status. It will have a value such as Open, Open / Never Late, Paid / Closed / Never Late, etc....
Yes in the status box it only says charged off does not say any of those other choices.
I'm not an expert on disputes, but I'd dispute that (preferably in writing via US Mail) as obsolete -- account closed and charged off 10.5 (or whatever) years ago and also calculate the number of years since the date of first delinquency and state that is over 7 years as well.
If my wording is bad, I'm sure someone will jump in. It should in theory go away...I'd be pretty surprised if it didn't/ Don't forget to send a dispute to each credit bureau it is showing on.
