At present I have a Capital One loan with 8.44% for 72mos with 62mos left.
I put in to refi with Penfed and the rate they have is 7.44% for 72mos or 66mos.
Is it worth pulling the trigger or should I try to look for a lower rate if possible?
Dropping a single point while lengthening the term is probably not worth it, but I'd do the math to see how it works out.
I'd shop around some more to see if you can drop a few points off at a 60 month note. Your payment may be slightly more, but the interest you pay offer the life of the loan should be significantly reduced.
How much did you borrow? A $25K loan / 72mo / 8.44% will end up with $6,948 in interest over the life of the loan, so it's very likely you could save thousands of dollars if you can drop your interest rate.
