Today I had someone tell me that within a few months I could possibly qualify for a secured loan, but probably not an unsecured loan. I would like to be riding a motorcycle this summer, so I had the idea (assuming that ends up being true) that i could purchase a bike on a credit card and then apply for a loan and using the bike to secure it, and then using the loan to pay back the CC..... Now in theory it sounds good and simple, but how often do things go as well as planned. Has anyone ever done anything like this or heard of anyone doing this?
P.S. I'm well aware that I could end up not getting approved for anything and be stuck trying to figure out how to get the bike off of the credit card. I was thinking I could get a card with no interest for a year or one of those dealies, so if it doesn't go according to plan i won't be looking at insane interest being shoved down my throat.
Ya'll have been a blessing or somethin,
Johnny
I know car dealers don't take credit cards because they could lose up to 5% in credit card fees. Some people have success for putting the deposit or the first 2k of a car on credit card, but not the whole purchase. I would think motocycle dealers are the same.
For the same reason, you can't pay off a loan using a credit card either as far as I know.
You could be paying triple interest then. 3% for the initial charge, 18-24% for the credit card after 12 months, then 5-10% on the loan. Loans last much longer, 3-6 years while with a credit card, you only have 12 months to pay off the entire purchase before you get hit with huge fees.
Also the loan money would have to go to the dealer. Even if you get a cash loan like lightstream, they will ask for verification about the purchase. Now you could get a credit card / debt consolidation loan which would go towards paying a credit card but they have large interest rates and probably look bad for your credit history.

What if I was just calling it a personal loan
With your score. Why don't you just finance the motorcycle through dealership?
