Trying to get a used car.

I recently joined a local credit union to try to apply for a car loan. The car I plan on buying is going to be atleast $7500. I applied for the loan and they denied it due to delinquent past or prestn credit obligations with others- Income insufficent for amount of credit and excessive ovlications in relation to income. So  I looked up my credit report with Equifax(which is where they got this info from) and it says i have no postive no negative or any type of credit and that my FICO score isnt avaible? So what should I do to help start gaining credit info threw Equifax? Get the appiled bank secured credit card? If so how long could it take for them to report it to Equifax and what would my score start off if i paid on time( and pay the balance) every month? thanks

Re: Trying to get a used car.

First of all don't get applied bank.  Get a BofA secured card. In fact post your question about secured cards in the Credit Card forum, the people there will be able to help you get a decent score in the next six months.
