So after 6 months with my current auto loan with WF I attempted to refinance, and to my surprise, I was offered I higher interest rate than what I currently have(12.62% vs 11.72%). I was a bit dumbfounded since my credit score is higher than when I first took out the loan, my credit utilization is less than it was before, the loan I had outstanding at the time I took out the loan was paid off, I have never been late on any payments, and my debt to income ratio is lower than before. The only thing that the representative stated was the reason for a higher rate was because of Wells Fargo's higher interest rates, and did not get me in touch with a credit analyst after I asked on multiple occassions. I originally started with a $12,099 dollar loan 6 months ago and now I owe a little less than $7,500 since I have been paying extra since I started. Any insight on my situation or suggestions? I am now strongly considering a local credit union(I live in GA) for the refinance of my current loan.
That does sound akward. Why don you try DCU. They seem to offer the best interest for those who dont have access to NFCU or USAA. Seeing as you are making extra payments anyway, the savings could be tremendous. Dont settle for 1 bank. If they wont help you, others will. For a heads up, DCU is 1 hard pull for membership + 1 more inquiry for Auto Loan/CC.. Equifax. Give it a try!
Could be the loan amount affecting the rate. Could be LTV (doubt this one).
With your credit scores though, I'm surprised you're getting such a high rate before and after.
The age of the car is alos a factor. It may have crossed their "line" into a different age bucket.

Can you give me some insight on how a membership with an online credit union works?

That's what surprised me as well even if they had a rate increase. With just refinancing the existing loan withouth cashout of $5,000 they were offering me 11.74%, which is still higher. I've decided to just to pay off the card by next summer before i proceed to attempt buying a home next fall.

I'd hope not, my vehicle is a 2008 BMW 328i and they tend to hold their value for longer periods of time.
