Does higher down payment make a big difference (like 50%) when it comes to auto loan approval or is it just a slight difference? In other words does it help offset things enough to get approval for a loan even with debt ratio issue, negatives etc?

I'm driving a beater car now and the cars I really want are too expensive so I'm toying with the idea of getting something sooner that's no more than 20k or so and try to put close to half down or at least 30%
