Amex after bankruptcy?

Question for a friend?

Does Amex auto deny you if you have a bankruptcy on your credit report. She didn't burn them, so is there ant chance of her getting an Amex card even though she declared bankruptcy?

Re: Amex after bankruptcy?

Amex will generally auto-deny you until 5 years 1 month after filing regardless if they were included or not.  Then they approve/deny you depending on your credit profile.  Amex's policy is more lenient than say Chase or Citi.

Thank you for sharing.  I had heard the 5 year 1 month rule about AMEX auto-denying, but didn't realize they were more lenient that Chase or Citi.    This gives me a little bit of hope that in 5-10 years I might have an AMEX again.

Yeah, typically the BK will have to fall off your reports to get a card from Chase or Citi whether they were included or not.

With Amex they can approve after 5 year 1 month, but they won't do a CLI until after the BK falls off.  At least you get a card to build that relationship with them again.
