Cap1 possibly opened their gate and letting me back in...

Discharge Date: 7/24/2018

Current Experian (FICO 8) 636

I'm basically following the SoulMaster's "700 in 24 months..." and I'm just wondering if I should pull the triger for a Cap1. According to the plan you need 3 cards and an installment loan which I have now. Also I'm keepeing an 8% balance on one card only, that reports every month and the rest gets paid off before the statements get cut. May end up with a differrent card that reports monthly but always just one with 8% or less with PIF right after the statement date.

Cap1 locked me out for a long time because I burned them quite badly but their prequal page all of a sudden shows 2 options, namely the Platinum MC or the QS1. With that said should I get the Cap1 and then possibly get rid of my Merrick Visa as it is a "subprime" with not much future or hang in the garden for a while instead. I'd like to have cards that are keepers with some possible limit increases in the future.

Here is what I got since discharge:

CreditOne opened 6/2018 $300 (closed in 10 months because of $95 fee)
Discover opened 8/2018 $1500 (secured for first 8 months with $200 deposit)
Ollo Mastercard opened 2/2019 $2000
Merrick Visa opened 5/2019 $750
SelfLender opened 3/2019 (4 pymts made out of 12 total)
Target RedCard opened 6/2019 $300

Hi

I doubt you will get a cap one card so soon.  I also went through bk 7 in july 2017 so its been two years.   I also have ollo and they will keep raising your limit.   I started with 2,000 and now up to 4300.  I didn't even have to ask.   Cap one approved me for store cards first and I just got a venture card for 10,000.  Pretty good i'd say.  My score is around 730 already.  So get a cap one store card and wait six months and then apply for reg card.   Helpful hint.   Get a saks or neiman card and buy something expensive and then return it.  It will look like u paid it off.  lol  Good luck

Any Cap One prequals?

Cap One will let you in...just a matter of when.

I burned them and now have 85k available between 3 of their cards.

Rebuild started in 2014  -  $100k unsecured credit in 2017  -  $500k unsecured credit in 2024.

At the end of this month it's 1 year since my discharge and I've got prequal offer for Platinum MC or the QS1. I'm just hesitant to pull the triger since I don't know if it's the right time based on my progress as discribed in my original post above.

Cap1 prequals are pretty solid. Stay away from the QS1. Go fo the Plat and upgrade 3-4 months after approval for cash back. You have what it takes now for the FICO bonus per say. Then say later to Merrick.

Their prequels are pretty solid. As long as It offers you a set APR, not a range, then its good. Make sure all your CRA are open. They will triple pull. Good luck!
