Hi,
My discharge date should've have been yesterday. I'm assuming that I'll be receiving a letter and my credit reports will start updating. Do you typically wait for everything to update before starting to rebuild? I just want one card to start working on my rebuild. My goal was to start with a cap one platinum or the secured version.
You not only want to wait, but you want to wait until it's correct on all your credit reports. The discharge date isn't a set deadline, more like an "earliest possible" date. Given the circumstances, the court may be backed up a bit with limited/reduced staffing, which may delay the actual discharge. PACER will be updated once complete.
If you haven't already, check out the HOW TO: From BK7 discharge to 700 in 24 months or less! thread for a great step-by-step guide.
Thank you.
My tentative discharge date was the 3rd of Feb this yr but I didn't discharge until the 10th and closed on the 14th. Give it time, as it was stated, the courts could be busy on a normal day and even worse now as people are panicing and the courts probably enacting social distance measures. Don't worry, you will get there. Do you have a PACER account? That will give you exactly when you discharge almost in real time. Once you get discharged, wait for your reports to update to discharged and all accounts listed to $0 balance and IIB. Fix any wrong reporting and then start getting your rebuilder cards. You will want 3 cards and one installment loan. Keep about 8.9% or less reporting on one card and the rest at $0 listing on the statements. The loan can be anything. Self lender/secured if need be if you already don't have one.
@Azuieldrago I'm assuming a school loan or car loan is also fine?
I just created a PACER account and the status area shows awaiting closing - Ordering Discharging Debtor and Final Decree as of 4-15.
When I go to the case summary, it says debtor discharged as of 4/15.
I'll be waiting for the status to say closed.

Congrats. You are officially discharged.

Yes. As long as its an installment loan.
@Azuieldrago thank you! I'm going to wait and see how my credit report updates before applying. I'm going to be patient. Thank you so much for bringing up the PACER account. I had no clue that existed.
