I want to open up a checking account with Charles Schwab but they do a credit check. I was talking on an agent online and he said the credit check results in a hard pull. My BK isn't discharged yet, do I wait to open the account? Since it isn't technically to get open a line of credit. How many hard pulls can I have on my credit report? I'm planning in following the plan on this forum, will I have a problem with the extra credit check? Has anyone ever had experience with their checking account? Will I not be able to open a checking account with the BK? I don't think I have anythig in the chexsystems. I owed Chase money a long time ago but I was able to open up a bank account six years later with them.

I opened my NFCU checking/saving while waiting for discharge. I have no clue if Charles Schwab is different though. Try asking the representative.

I asked what things would disqualify someone from opening a checking account but he said he couldn't tell me. Everybody is different of something. Should I just stick to my Chase checking account or would an extra hard pull not hurt my credit as much?
I opened a High Yield Schwab Investor Checking Acct two weeks ago. No issues and I have a 3 yr old BK.
@northface: Guess I will have to wait a few years to try to open it.
@scupra: I'm already a member of NFCU, I wanted to open up the Charles Schwab account so I can open an investor account also. Guess it's going to have to wait. Thanks
I opened an investment account a week after i was discharged. I say go for it, worst they can say is no.

OK thanks, I'll try it out. Can I try to open it before I get discharged? Or wait until after?
I would wait until you are discharged first.

Ok thanks. When you opened your investment account, did they do a credit check also?
