Credit card for Chapter 13

Hiya. I'm not sure where to look so I figured I would come here. My Chapter 13 discharged in Jan 2021 so it remains on my credit report. Since the discharge I have been approved for a home loan, a car loan, maintained a payment history of 100% for the past 4+ years, and kept my revolving credit below 7%. I rarely use my credit cards now unless I travel because the interest is just terrible and I'm actually only keeping them open for credit age. One of the finance managers at the car dealership I work at told me to start looking for a card with a lower interest rate and some rewards since my scores range between 690-725. Does anyone know where I should look or should I just wait until the Chapter 13 falls off next year? Thanks for reading. 😊

A few comments:

  • Why not use your credit cards for everything you can, keep them paid in full (or play the AZEO game), and collect the rewards completely interest free?
  • When my Chapter 13 was discharged two years ago I immediately set about getting three credit cards which I use to their fullest; to date I've yet to pay a penny of interest and against that I've collected over $900 in rewards.
  • Regarding your credit scores, mine where where yours are now; last month when my Chapter 13 fell off, the jumped up to the point where all 28 scores were above 800.

Chapter 13:

  • Burned: AMEX, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and South County Bank (now Bank of Southern California)
  • Filed: 26-Feb-2015
  • MoC: 01-Mar-2015
  • 1st Payment (posted): 23-Mar-2015
  • Last Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
  • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020
  • Closed: 23-Jun-2020

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

Re: Credit card for Chapter 13

Hiya! Thanks for the reply. I'd love to do that, but the cards I have do not have rewards. Could you point me in the right direction of a card that has rewards that someone in my position might qualify for? Thanks!

Right off the bat I'm thinking the CapitalOne Quicksilver card; 1.5% cash back for every purchase and a very low bar for qualification.

The SavorOne card, also from CapitalOne might be another option for you, it has a 3-tiered rewards structure where the cash rewards range from 1% to 3%.  Lots of other folks swear by Discover cards, I never went that route because Discover doesn't like me (not sure why, never had one of their cards before and yet they wouldn't approve me).
