Currently Im in chapter 13 (Filed Dec, 2016) and have made my mothly payments on time. My FICO is a 530 my 3 other scores are 509, 535, and 465. I have one deliquent student loan (90 days) that somehow got left out of my chapter 13 and im currently working on it. I asked my attorney could I apply for a secured CC and shop for a mortgage (VA Home Loan) he said yes, but the mortgage terms would have to be sent to the trustee for approval. So I applied for the USAA SCC 250.00 limit and was approved! The deposit was placed into a 2-yr CD. I am trying to bring my scores to atleast 600 so i can possibly get the best rate possible. I need help in doing so! I am planning on talking to Lighthouse, this is a free service for Vetrans.
My score hit the 600s after 2 months with secured cards. I would try to get 3 if possible. I was in a 13 too.
May I ask what state you all are located? In my state (MO) it is my understanding that during chapter 13 you cannot get ANY credit, even a secured card.
I am very interested in this because I’d love to start my re-build. I’m nearing my last year in my Ch 13 payment plan and any head start I could get with secured cards would be excellent.
Thanks for the help.

Which cards should I get? I have the usaa secured card. Also how can I get a delequient payment removed?
It is pre-file, if I am reading your posts correctly?
You can try a goodwill letter. Search goodwill or GW especially in the rebuilding your credit forum for more info.
You may not have 100% luck but you can try, be persistent and hope for the best.
As it relates to qualifying for a home, you can be approved for a government loan such as an FHA, VA and USDA Rural Development Loan while in an active Chapter 13. All you need is 12 months on time payments and approval from the Trustee. As far as the Student Loan(s), when you filed your 13 you should have listed that debt. In doing so, student loans usually go into deferment or forbearance. If that is the case with you, you need to contact the loan servicer or have your Attorney do it (sometimes they won't talk to you while in the 13) and have them correct the late immediately.
Tell them that you are getting ready to apply for a home loan and need it updated ASAP! If they struggle with you, tell them you don't want to file a complaint with the CFPB, but you will as they have mostly like violated FCRA. Know this, outside the damage the late is having on your score, we lenders can easily verify you are not in repayment and won't hold that reported late against you. We go down to 580 middle credit score across the board on government loans, down to 500 case by case. Most lenders want a 620. I have helped hundreds of individuals and families get into a home when they thought it wasn't even possible.
FYI, rates are moving up FAST. Try to work on your scores asap. Hope this info helps you! BTW, thank you for your service my fellow Veteran.
