Good morning BK family,
I would like to know if anyone had experience getting a decent CC approved with DCU or First Tech after BK? How friendly are they?
I am definately on the positive side of my rebuild after the BK. Have already established great accounts with NFCU and Penfed.
Just looking to add another card and not interested in a "started limit" looking for $5K+ if I add anything else.
TIA! Have a great week!

DCU has a two-year policy for approving credit post-filing. After that they are great. I opened a Visa card with them 25 months post-filing and they gave me a $10K limit. I closed it about 4 years later. Last year (9 years post-filing) I opened a new Visa with them and got $25K. DCU has one quirk that bites some people. It is not uncommon for people to get approved for a CC but then be denied membership if they are not already a member. This has to do with the FICO score and not Chex problems. DCU uses EQ5, the mortgage score, for everything. It appears that their standard for membership is higher than their standard for credit cards.
I did open bank accounts with First Tech but I was under the impression they were not at all BK friendly. I have since read on this forum that that is not true. I think it is a YMMV with them as I've heard lots of stories on both sides.
Thanks for that info.
I am already a member of both.
why did you close the first card to open the second? Does DCU only allow one cc per member?

I just closed it because at that time I thought I had too much open credit and would get denied by other lenders. Later I changed my mind, opened a new Visa with them, and I now have over $500K in open credit limits. I don't know their policy on number of cards. I only put a small charge on the card every 3 months.

Good morning! While I don't have access to personal experiences or recent data, I can provide you with some general information about DCU (Digital Federal Credit Union) and First Tech Federal Credit Union. Both DCU and First Tech are well-known credit unions that offer a variety of financial products, including credit cards. When it comes to post-bankruptcy credit approval, each institution may have its own policies and criteria.
However, credit unions are generally known for being more flexible and understanding compared to traditional banks. After bankruptcy, it's essential to continue rebuilding your credit by establishing positive credit history and maintaining responsible financial habits. It's great to hear that you've already established good accounts with NFCU (Navy Federal Credit Union) and PenFed (Pentagon Federal Credit Union), as these institutions are known for their favorable credit practices.
When applying for a credit card after bankruptcy, it's helpful to have a solid credit score, a stable income, and a low debt-to-income ratio. It's also important to be aware that the credit limit you are approved for will depend on various factors, including your credit history, income, and the specific policies of the credit union. While aiming for a credit limit of $5,000+ is a reasonable goal, it's important to keep in mind that post-bankruptcy approvals can vary from person to person. Factors such as the length of time since your bankruptcy discharge, your overall credit profile, and your relationship with the credit union can all influence the outcome.
To get a clearer understanding of the credit approval process and the likelihood of obtaining a higher credit limit, it would be beneficial to reach out directly to DCU and First Tech and inquire about their credit card options and their criteria for post-bankruptcy applicants. They will be in the best position to provide you with specific information based on your individual circumstances. Best of luck with your credit journey, and I hope you have a great week too!

Did you pull that from ChatGPT? Because it said a lot and nothing at the same time.

I have an account with both. My 13 was finally discharged spring of last year. It falls off in August/September of this year. Only thing I've been able to do with DCU is obtain a few quick loans without issue. I have not tried for anything with First Tech and probably won't.
