Discover still not showing love…

So i've been trying for the disco every month or so, and still haven't been able to get pre-approved. Last couple times they have said reason for no offer is due to NUMBER OF RECENT INQUIRIES. Not sure where the data points are for this, since I know disco is all over the place. My last inquiry was 1/20/21, and I have 15 on Experian. Score is 641 with 20% uti across 7 cards, BK DC will be 2 years 8/9.

Re: Discover still not showing love…

15 is a lot of inquiries, doesn't matter how old they are.

@ALLgoodABQ , I would give it a rest with Disco and all inquires for 6 months. Get that utilization DOWN to 1-2% and only on ONE CARD. Thats too much debt to be carrying post BK, and especially across so many cards.  Thats whats really spooking them. Do this, and I bet your outcome in 6 months is better.

Re: Discover still not showing love…

15 inquiries is insanely high. Give it a rest for a year - seriously.

Also why obsess over discover? They aren't really that amazing, a lot of places still don't even take Discover. They have a place, but for someone who has several other accounts already (and lord I hope you have at least 5 accounts considering you've got 15 inquiries!!) I don't see any real need for a meh card that you will not really be able to rely on as it's not universally accepted.

Re: Discover still not showing love…

@pizza1so I tried the All zero except one method and my scores were actually lower than they are now. I've read that it doesn't always work with everyone's profiles. I've seen a 10-15 point difference with 3/7 of my cards reporting some type of balance. I tend to keep only Ollo and Cap One with balance since they like usage for CLIs. But I'll pay a bit more off this next go around.

@Anonymous  The reason for my 15 inquiries arent due to app sprees. 4 of them were from my vehicle purchased when I had to surrender my other truck during the BK. Another one was to refinance that crazy loan. Two were from getting an apartment, which I was denied on one of them.  There were seven for my current cards, all spread about the last year and a half. And the last was an accidental one from that Klarna crap that I thought was a prequal, but turned out to be a hard pull. And I'm not obsessed over discover. I've read that it's a good card to have that will grow with you. And I've seen others on here that have just as many if not more inquiries than me and have way more cards and such in shorter time after BK.

Re: Discover still not showing love…

I mean at least they do have the easy prequal tool with no hard pull required. You can certainly keep checking.

I had Discover cards before BK and I rarely used them. The cashback was kind of a PITA process where it rotated between different categories and you would have to sign in and manually click a stupid button to activate it for whatever category they were promoting during that period. Also as I said, a certain % of vendors refused the card and even those that accepted it kind of did so begrudgingly. Discover also has a nasty habit of lowering your limit if you're not using the card religiously.

Just wanted to make sure you're aware of the less amazing aspects of Discover.

@Anonymous ....15 INQ is not insanely high.  50 inquires is insanely high.  Instead of being so sharp tongued, try being a little bit more helpful, and understanding.  Also...Discover has been around for many years, and is a good card. Millions of card holders think so as well. Discover is also fairly forgivable with people with past credit issues, and for ones that have filed BK.  Its a good lender to have in your pocket in those cases when one isnt able to get a lender like Amex or Chase etc.

@ALLgoodABQ Where are you getting your scores from when you try that method? The only ones that matter when doing that method are true fico scores.  Also, you dont have to justify your inq to anyone unless you feel you want too.  When i got my first car loan after BK, I decided to go with a credit union, and I unlocked one report (the one they would pull). I knew that dealerships would run my credit across unmpteen lenders, so I wanted to limit that as much as possible, and save my inq for all my cards, lol. I get hit with 3 inquires for an appartment as well, so I feel your pain on that.  Also, you're right....there are tons of folks who have way more inquires than you.  Some of us would call you an "ametaeur", LOL.. Smiley Happy Just keep plugging along, doing what you're doing. I feel quite sure you'll get discover Smiley Happy
