Filing on Friday

I have an appointment on Friday to start the bankruptcy process.  Can anyone tell what exactly happens?  Will I get to keep any of my credit cards?  I am just a little frightened of the situation.  Thank You for any help!!

Re: Filing on Friday

R u going to see a lawyer first? If so, you will most likely discuss what debts you have and who is owed what. You'll have to do a little paper work, but your lawyer does most of the work on your behalf. All of your creditors will receive notice of your BK and more than likely close your accounts. Although, talk to you lawyer about trying to hold on to one. You just need to sign an agreement to continue to pay them, if they go for it. Dont stress about it, once its over you'll have a clean slate and you can start over.  My mother works at a hospital, and some people there dont know if they will even live to see Friday.  So... go in there with your head up and handle business.

Yes I have my initial visit with a lawyer on Friday.  Does this mean that everything that is on my credit report now is not going to be on there?  I do have two credit cards, will I have to get rid of them?

Re: Filing on Friday

If you have a balance on the card you will have to include in the BK you cannot pick and choose who you want to keep. I will warn you though if you have a major credit card like AMEX, Discover, Mastercard or Visa they will end up closing your account anyways Smiley Sad .... credit cards that survive is anything store credit without at mastercard or visa logo. What I did is before my bk I applied for 2 store credit cards and did not use them, this way when my bk is discharged I could start using them to rebuild my credit.
