How am I doing at this point?

Hi all! I am almost 2 years post BK and the scores/info in my sig are accurate. I was hoping to be closer to the 700's by now, I followed the BK to 700 in 24 months guide mostly (but admittedly not to the tee). Everything is reporting IIB/0 bal. I have two loans, one consolidated student and one small personal. Is gardening and getting UTIL down (which I'm doing this week) the only thing I can do right now? Is it possible to at least get to 660 at 2 years post d/c (Jan. 2020)?

@CashBackQueen -

Good Morning,

How many inquiries are reporting on each report? It seems like it could be your inquiries and balances that are affecting your scores. Are your credit limits low?

Cant help if we don't know the details. List out your actual FICO scores, all your CC accounts with the current balance and the credit limits. Do you have ANY negatives at all POST DC? like lates?

Re: How am I doing at this point?

@ JustMe, I have between 4 and 9 inquiries, depending on which report you pull. My credit limits go from $300 (Target) to $2350, most being between 1 and 2k.

@ Pizza, my scores are the same as my sig, 639, 640 and 653. No latest or any negatives since BK. I have a Discover It, Quicksilver, Spark (business but reports to personal, that's where the balance is coming from, all my personal cards are at 0) NFCU Cash Rewards (new, haven't received yet) and three store cards.

Re: How am I doing at this point?

I'm two year post file. I'm not two years post dischage yet. I have to agree with you...I am confused why your scores are not higher. I started with a score in the high 400s and two scores in the low 500s.  I got to 700 in 12 months.

My credit history is very short and I have a ton of inquires. But I keep my utilization ultra low. No individual card is over 28% and aggregate is 4% (I usually keep it around 8% but just got some new credit which dropped it even further). I use the heck out of my cards so it requires some planning. (All my statement close dates are on my calender). I am still actively seeking credit 😮 so I want to maximize scores and profile for now. I would not do this normally nor recommended it.

What are the top reasons codes you receive from FICO? Use the Experian $1 trial

Mine are Public Record, Short Account History and Loan Balances. All makes sense...BK, CCs about 1 year old, and new car.

If your reason codes are referencing your old accounts they may be the issue.

Re: How am I doing at this point?

Like @pizza1 posted. Please list out each account like this:

Creditor Name/ Credit Line/ Balance.

This includes the loans. If you can. You can pay off the personal loan. You only need 1 for FICO and the student loans are doing that for you. Save some interest. Yes you should be past 700 by now.

Re: How am I doing at this point?

@morpho How do I find the reason codes? I have Experian but don't see that. It probably is referring to old accounts, I have several old lates and charge-offs on accounts that we're IIB from stupid teenage years.

Re: How am I doing at this point?

If you are on the website go to "Reports&Scores" then "FICO Scores". Below your score you will see a section called "Your score Profile"

"Whats helping your score?" (Green) and  "What is hurting you score" (Red)

If you are in the app click directly on your score or the side menu "FICO Scores". It will take you to a screen with the green up arrows and red down arrow. Click the arrows to take you to the "Score Factors" screen.

They are auto-generated based on how you profile is affecting your score.

Re: How am I doing at this point?

Thanks Morpho! I think I found the problem. There is an account that claims it was opened a year after my bankruptcy, but it shows it was included in my BK. How is that possible? It's making it look like a fresh collection. And to make it worse, I've told this company for years that it is not even my account! Someone used my name at a hospital I've never been to but they wouldn't remove it.

The other error codes say high loan balance (my student loan 😣) and short account history (AAoA 4 years, 11 months). Then of course the BK itself, and my old accounts were late before filing.
