Re: How to join NCFU and rebuild as a civilian the right way

I think that's a good idea to go into the branch... I originally requested 15K for my c-loc and the bank officer put in a request to reconsider if I could not get the 15K and the loan department came back with 5K. The bank officer said that was the best way to do it, is to ask them for a counter-offer when putting in your original application. Thanks Guyatthebeach for your advice. You rock!!!

Re: How to join NCFU and rebuild as a civilian the right way

Update:

So I went ahead and called to see if any progress had been made on my app that I faxed in. The rep I spoke with called to the membership department and they had not processed anything so she suggested we just go ahead and open the account up over the phone She asked how I was eligible, adv NL-SD, then she also asked if anyone referred me since they had a membership drive going on, as the person would be eligible for $50. I have a friend that told me about NFCU long time back, so I said yes I did get a referral and she asked for their access#. I texted them quick and they sent me their number, so it turns out, I actually got in on the Membership drive rather than NL-SD. She asked me all the standard questions and 10 mins later, my account is open and funded! I'm so stoked to get this account! And even though the NL membership didn't end up being my way in, it's still a donation to a good cause.

I went ahead and apped for the cash rewards and got a 24-48hr message. If i get it great, if I don't, i'll recon and if still nothing, I'll just got back to the garden for the next 6months like I was already going to do. I didn't do the CLOC because I didn't really reall that my profile is in good enough shape to get a big limit, and i've operated for years without the option and without overdrawing my account, no reason to start now. A huge thanks for everyone's help and advise on getting the account open! I truly hope everyone on the BK rebuilding path gets to experience the NFCU love!

Re: How to join NCFU and rebuild as a civilian the right way

Update: Went into the branch and spoke with a member serivces representative. I explained my initial denial, and she was able to pull the notes from the account where I had asked to be reconsidered as I was trying to rebuild after bankruptcy. The representative resubmitted my applicztion with a 5K request and asked to be countered if not able to be approved. She also called loan services to get an immediate application.

After reviewing the original application and my notes about rebuilding, I was approved for 5K! In fact, the loan processor stated she was not sure why I was denied in the first place. I signed my paperwork and the service rep told me it would appear in about 2 to 3 days. Thank you to GuyAtTheBeach and BunniMom for the great advice! Off to the garden I go.

FreedomFromDebt,

Congratulations on the approval! Im glad to see your app was approved. It's been my personal opinion that if you recon for lower amounts and apply in person, you will get approved. Even though NFCU is a CU, I'm pretty sure the branch associates have quotas to meet. I'm know if you have a quota to meet, you will do a little extra to get that app approved!

Something else I would do, the day after your third statement cuts, I would apply for a credit card if you feel comfortable adding one to your mix.

I would also do what you can to max out your savings account at NFCU. That 3% rate is the best.

Life's a beach!

I am a firm believer of asking for the full $15k They usually counter with full amount and if they don't, recon and ask to start with a small line to prove yourself.

Each person has their own internal limit. Each card also has its max exposure.
