More questions

Hello - thank you all so much for your answers to my post yesterday.  It was very helpful.  A couple more questions that I'm wondering about today.

1.  I pulled one free credit report for myself and my husband, out of curiousity for our scores and what was on there.  Most accounts are already labeled as IIB, but a couple say charged off.  Once we get our discharge (supposed to be around Feb 15th), should those change to IIB and should I dispute it if it doesn't?  I'm not sure what teh difference is between Charged Off and IIB

2. All of our student loans have the status "Pays as agreed" except one of mine, which says IIB.  Should I address that now with the student loan lender or just wait and see what happens after the discharge.  I'm not sure why it says that.  (it's through acs, the lender is us bank)

3.   My husbands equifax score was 614 and my transunion score was 579 (I'm guessing it's lower since my student loan status?).  Should we continue to see a drop after teh discharge or is this as bad as it will get?

4.  I see everybody posting their scores - do you use a subscription to watch your scores and what do you go through?  I'd like to be extra vigilant, especially over the next few months and make sure everything is reporting correctly.

Thank you all so much again for your help.  I know I have a lot of questions.  I just want to make sure we don't make any mistakes in trying to move forward and rebuilding.  Thank you again!!!

Re: More questions

I'm not sure what teh difference is between Charged Off and IIB - If the account was charged off prior to you filing, then that reporting title is correct.  After discharge, there is a chance it "might" update to IIB, but, if it doesn't, there may not be much you can do.

2. All of our student loans have the status "Pays as agreed" except one of mine, which says IIB.  Should I address that now with the student loan lender or just wait and see what happens after the discharge.  I'm not sure why it says that.  (it's through acs, the lender is us bank) - This is normal.  Some lenders will update the status to IIB while your case is processing.  I had a loan with ACS and it did.  Your account should also be in foreberence with no payment required (though you can make them manally).  If you did not make any payments, your interest during the BK period will capitialize and be added to your loan balance. Once you are discharged, your loan will revert back to normal.  Check this daily - because mine switched back without any notice and I was almost 30 days late as a result.  Cannot stress this enough.

3.   My husbands equifax score was 614 and my transunion score was 579 (I'm guessing it's lower since my student loan status?).  Should we continue to see a drop after teh discharge or is this as bad as it will get? - This is hard to answer as it depends on your credit profile prior to BK. For me, once the BK hit my report, my score dropped like a lead balloon. Once all the accounts updated to IIB, my scores post discharge were actually higher than when I filed.  Again, hard to say, but, I would say you should see some improvement from here on out.

4.  I see everybody posting their scores - do you use a subscription to watch your scores and what do you go through?  I'd like to be extra vigilant, especially over the next few months and make sure everything is reporting correctly. - myFICO offers several credit report subscriptions for you to monitor your report (or reports) and get your various credit scores.  Many of us suggest getting a card to rebuilt with post discharge, and using it to pay for the myFICO subscription and nothing else.  It's a small charge and you build payment history

Good luck rebuiling!

Re: More questions

Thank you!  That is all very helpful.  I guess now we just wait for the discharge.  Thanks again for replying!  And thank you for the head's up on teh student loans.  I've been nervous about that since they just told me that after they receive the discharge, payments will resume but didn't give any more specifics.  I'll go check on those now.

Re: More questions

I used myFico at first, but was concerned about the cost. Someone mentioned CreditCheckTotal. They are $1 for a week, then $29.95/mo. However, if you cancel within the week, they will give you an offer for at least a year at half price. That is what I have done. I also use some of the free sites like CreditKarma. Just realize the free ones usually use the Vantage score, and not a FICO score. You may also get some credit cards which will give you a free score, I get one with Barclay, Walmart, and Capital One. I also get a score from DCU every month.

If you need a secured credit card, I recommend the OpenSky card. Doesn't do a credit pull and only requires a $200 initial deposit. Good luck to you!
