My Bankruptcy Journey

Hey Wonderful People,

I wanted to create a post to hold myself accountable in a sense as I go through my bankruptcy and credit rebuild. I filed in January 2021 and had my 341 meeting in February. The meeting went well and I am currently waiting on my discharge which should take place in early April. I have my emergency fund completely funded and decided to get a jump start on my credit rebuild. I know I should have waited for discharge but I knew there was no credit check for an OpenSky credit card so I applied and was approved for $200 early March. I just applied for a savings account at Andrews Federal Credit Union and was approved. I opened a base savings account in hopes of getting their Platinum Rewards Secured Visa Card. Even though their site states there is no credit check for the card I am still going to wait until my discharge to apply. Like I have said before this forum has been very instrumental in my credit recovery and I couldn't be more thankful for it's members. I pray everyone has a productive and wonderful 2021!

Well you are almost over the bridge. The waiting for discharge seems like it takes forever. You seem to have a good start. I also went with an open sky to start as I did not want inquiries. Just remember it's a marathon not a sprint. Best of luck! If you list who you burned, a lot of others can help with recommending cards to obtain to rebuild.

Thank you so much for the well wishes. Unfortunately I burned a lot of the big ones with the one I regret the most (NFCU). I am already putting myself in a position to apply for two other cards after discharge. Those being secured cards from AOD CFU and Andrews FCU (no credit check). I am really hoping I get the AOD card has it has pretty nice rewards to be a secured card with the 2x for gas. I will drop my OpenSky at the first opportunity that presents itself for a no annual fee secured card. Looking at DCU since I have been banking with them for a little over a year now. I have had a couple issues with my debit card from them and decided to switch my DD to AOD to start building on that relationship a little more.

Re: My Bankruptcy Journey

Update:

So I logged in to PACER about a couple weeks ago and noticed that the "Objection for Discharge Due" was set for 04/12/2021. Well thought I would log in today and have a look to see what was going on and my case shows the following:

Pending Statuses

Status = Case Closed

Begin Date = 04/13/2021

Time in Status = 0

Status Set By = Final Decree; Case Closed

I noticed on one of the other pages that this appeared to be autogenerated. I hope this means my discharge is complete and my case is actually closed. Now to sit tight a couple months and plan out my strategy as I don't want to jump right in to things and let the dust settle.

Re: My Bankruptcy Journey

Received a Mission Lane mailer (no AF, 1% cash back) while I was waiting on dischsrge. Pulled the trigger tonight and entered my code on their site and was approved for $1000 SL. I also received a Credit One and Milestone pre-approval offer in the mail today. Opened them and saw their hefty annual fees and how Credit One charges interest on purchases from the posting date. Those Credit One bastards try their best to reel you in. The pre-approval offer I received even has a 1% cash back reward. That works really well when they charge you interest on your purchase as soon as it post. What is really sad is people that are desperate or just don't know any better will apply for one of their cards. I can honestly say that if they were my only option I would just garden until I could apply for something else.

Yup exactly. The worst part is there are always these Credit Scum offers no matter where you go. Don't give in unless you want to be paying exhorbitant fees and all that. Great job on the approval btw. That's a great SL from Mission Lane!

Its best to start the credit report repair process before the rebuild. Ensure everything is updated correctly, then move on to starting the rebuild. And don't jump the gun and start applying to everything. Check Pre-approvals. Research cards. A little bit of patience now will open plenty of doors later.

I agree. That is assuming everything looks good on the reports after the discharge and that nothing weird happened. I'd also never recommend applying for everything under the sun or for any Credit One cards especially either.
