My goal is to get a home in two years so I need to rebuild. I had an Orchard bank card and and I believe they were bought out by Cap 1. So I burned them for $500. Thats the only card I had. I will take my time with this as I have no choice. Going to go over my reports and make sure everything is correct in the meantime. Thank you

I'll disagree and say to avoid Credit One like the plague.WhichNFCU credit card did you apply for? I recommend theirsecurednRewards. You want your foot in the doorwithNFCU, even if it's a secured card. Theywillunsecure later and the sky is the limit with them.I agree
If you are itching to get the 3rd card right away I would go with the secured nRewards from NFCU. It doesn't report as secured and can graduate on the 13th statement.
Still crossing my fingers for a successful recon though
OMG! The recon at NFCU worked! I've been approved for their nRewards card, unsecured with a limit of $500.00! I now have my 3rd card and can happily retreat to my garden for the next 6mos to a year! Would never had know I could do this without this forum!
Amazing!!! I just knew you walk away with an approval Use it wisely and it will be your highest limit card soon

Curious, what are they like time-wise with giving out CLI's? How soon should I expect/request one?

You want to wait a minimum of three statements plus an annual review. There is a great thread about NFCU CLI process in the credit card section
here you go:
OMG! I am in the same boat now as you were. Chapter 7 discharged 9/23/15. Cap 1 gave me the Plat & QS cards with $500 each within days following discharge and I burned them for a couple thousand in my BK. Color me shocked! I can't seem to get the 3rd card. Anyway, congrats on getting your three!!! Too bad I don't qualify for membership to NFCU.

I I wasn't sure I would even qualify at first because my military career only lasted less than 12 months due to an injury and was released on a general discharge but apparently that was enough for them thank the gods....lol

Congrats on the success you made thus far. Stick to this board...and I mean stick. You're gonna learn so much that your head will spin but before you know it those scores are going to climb.
Make sure all your BK accounts are listing as IIB and as others have already said, TAKE CARE OF NFCU. Thats you're best ticket to getting your UTL low and keeping it low as time goes by. If you havnt already, read the NFCU CLI guide that Scupra sent you. I'm 15 months post bk7 disch and could not have imagined I would make so much progress in relatively short time. Try to keep the INQ's to what you have for now and make sure you are NEVER LATE on anything. Good luck and CONGRATS !

Are you medically retired? If not this could come back to haunt you unless you also qualify through family. The reps on the phone sometimes don't screen eligibility very thoroughly. Their security department freezes peoples already active accounts when a possible question about eligibility comes up. You don't want that affecting the account your paycheck goes to or be travelling when it happens. They treat their members great and I will keep them for life, but I know from personal experience that this is something to be prepared for.
No, I was not medically discharged. I could've stayed in and recovered but because of my age at the time (recently 18), they had given me the option to just do a general discharge. I didn't not join over the phone, I joined online. I will keep an eye on though.
