I'm would like to get an update to a pending lawsuit. I would like to see if I successfully filed a response to a motion and the outcome.
I've seen tidbits about pacer before, is that what I'm looking for? I just don't wanna give my debit card and end up getting charged for something I have no idea how to use lol.
If I'm understanding this it's free unless I use more then 30 pages?
Hi. Yes it's pacer that you need. It's completely safe to give your cc info. You pay only after $30.00 per quarter, not 30 pages. Docs are $0.10 each so it's pretty hard to get to $30.00 in my opinion. Audio files are more. Just be careful how you search (I search by my SSN) to avoid opening needless documents and you'll be fine. I've never been charged and I have A LOT of documents.
I have a binder with every single document related to my BK. Tons of pages and never paid a dime. Came in handy when a couple creditors tried to sneak in a collection. Stopped them in their tracks.
I created an account on pacer. I couldn't figure out how do use it..I only found it wanting to search for bankruptcy cases which I don't need.
I found a link on my courts site that allows you to search for cases. I found my case, a civil lawsuit. The last update was Aug 11,I responded to the default judgment. No other updates and the case still shows as pending.
This morning I received an email from adp.com, an accounting firm, they have processed a wage garnishment starting in 1-2 pay weeks. I created an account on ADP and they had my info but nothing is showing up.
Would pacer also have this info? I don't understand how my court doesn't have the case updated online yet. I assume that's how the plaintiff got the paperwork to file a wage garnishment.
P.s are you billed for searching on pacer or just when you actually click a document?
No to searching. BK is a federal court and all records are found on PACER. Not local.

pacer is really easy to use. i can keep my amounts down to nothing. got a case currently in federal court as pro se against a represented party. i have never been billed and i have used it for over a year. use the quick search. i will never download anything off pacer. it gets super expensive. literally can keep my amounts down and i am facing biglaw.
How do lawyers and pro se filers get updates to cases? Is my states court website the most up-to-date system available? Do the lawyers who are suing me have another system they use? I don't understand how I received an email from ADP.com about a wage garnishment, but the case in question is still pending as of 8/11. I wonder if it's a spam email from signing up to pacer and my states site.
Anything outside of the US Bankruptcy Courts and your case will be found in your countys public records. Two separate systems. Lawsuits, judgements, leins, and so on can be viewed locally. BK Courts and all that is invovled in your BK case will be found on PACER. Anyone who tries to collect a debt. Call them. Give them your case # and ask them to stop. And give a copy to your lawyer. Let your lawyer know you called. That will stop them. If not. They can be sued and you'll win a the fine.

That's a really good idea. I should do the electronic equivalent of a binder for all my stuff.
I'll have to call the helpdesk to get access to PACER. The site says it sends me an email to confirm info but then it never does. Weird.
