Hey yall!
I know a big question about post-bankruptcy life is getting approved for apartment leases. This was a big one for me, and most of my online searches came up with a general thought of 2 years before getting approved with more higher-end properties/companies.
I'm about 1.5 years post-BK7 discharge, and coming up on having to either renew my current lease, or move. I decided to call around to properties managed by big apartment management companies (such as ZRS/Bell/Lincoln Properties/Greystar/AMLI) and was told there's no longer a hard rule on how long ago your bankruptcy needs to have aged, but instead the approval process leans more on your overall profile.
Long story short, I was approved instantly with no extra deposit for a new apartment less than two years post bankruptcy. YMMV of course, and I've posted my credit journey since discharge elsewhere on this board.
Congratulations on your apartment approval!
