Testing waters with account not included in bankruptcy

So before I filed I paid off a tire store account, which was below the threshhold for it to be considered abuse.

Anyway they have been reporting that the account was still active and in good standing, but I was told in order to use the account they would need to pull my credit (because I would be transfering my account from one store to another). Anyway I moved and found out this store isn't pulling my credit to move my file. So I am going in to get some routine services done on my car and charging it to my account. (around $80 out of a $500 limit).

I am hoping to use this to boost my credit score as its been inactive for awhile now.

Re: Testing waters with account not included in bankruptcy

I had one credit card that wasn't IIB. I had never even activated the card and to be honest, I had forgotten that I even had it. Somehow, my attorney missed it and it was never listed in the BK. The only reason I 'found' it was because it showed up on one of my credit reports and was being listed as current and paid as agreed, even though I never used it.

So after the discharge, I activated the card and had no issues and then I used it to buy gas at a pay at the pump and it worked fine. It was a Visa card designed for medical charges (offering 0% financing for 6 months on medical charges) and my daughter needed her wisdom teeth pulled, O I planned on using it for that now that I knew the card was active. That went through with no issue as well. So I was lucky to start out with a card that worked right out of the gate and I've had no issues with it and I'm now more than 4 months passed discharge.

Of course YMMV with that card issuer. They may close it the first time you use it or it could be fine. You will never know until you use it. Good luck!

They may never find out. Or they may eventually find out and close the account. I even had one post-petition creditor put in the verbiage that the online statement is for informational purposes only and not to collect a debt just like a pre-petition creditor.  Ride it while you can but don't poke the bear by requesting a CLI. That surviving account makes your rebuild a lot easier and quicker.

What I love about the store is how friendly they are. I went to use the account by doing a flat tire repair and a balance and they did it for free. Which is nice, since I don't have to pay, but come on, I finally get the account transferred to my local branch and they pull this! lol.
