Hello!
I am a long-time lurker here but have never posted so please be friendly. Lol
I filed for Ch7 BK on 08/24/23 and completed my 341 meeting about a month afterwards. I'm not set to (hopefully) be discharged until around 11/25/23. I've noticed that as far as the three bureaus go, Equifax and Experian have both listed all of my accounts as IIB Ch7 and $0 balance. Obviously, my payment histories are still there which still hurts me quite a bit but at least my income to debt ratio has drastically changed and has brought both of those FICO scores up tremendously. However, my TransUnion report is hanging on for dear life the secured credit card and credit builder loan that I'd had with Self, inc. The credit card is maxed out and is overlimit by about $90 because of the interest and late fee so my credit utilization shows that it's well over 100%. I know that I'll be able to dispute after my BK is discharged but I'm very impatient (only) because I'm planning on purchasing a car within the next month or so. My family has been struggling by using only 1 car that's beyond unreliable but does the job and with having 2 young children in school that need to be transported to and from PLUS having a fulltime job in emergency services is beyond stressful.
I've resorted to arranging rides with coworkers when they're available but the position that we're in requires that we have 'on call' shifts where I can literally be called in at 3am and expected to be there within an hour. Life will be much easier once I'm able to obtain my car once again. Long story short, my car was repossessed in July of this years because I was 2 months behind. I was working a bunch of OT in order to just drop the lump sum of the 2 late payments + current payment but unfortunately the credit union sent it out to be towed and they picked it up that same day. That was my turning point that actually set me into motion for filing for BK and I figured it may be for the best considering it was a Kia and I live in a very high crime city where Kias and Hyundais are stolen all day, every day. Crazy enough, working in 911, I literally have about 10 of these vehicles daily either being recovered or chased.
ANYWAY, I talked to a dealership who's aware that I've filed and not discharged yet but they told me that I'd need to wait until my 341 meeting in order to move forward. My attorney advised me that I'd be able to get a new vehicle a week after filing but I wanted to wait until my credit score went up some before trying. Obviously I'm not going to have a great interest rate or monthly payment, but I was hoping to have all three reports cleared by the time that I do go. I was originally set to go last week but rescheduled due to this situation and now I'm set to go at the end of this month. Has anyone had a creditor that has reported to 2 other reports as IIB and $0 balance but not on their TransUnion report yet? Has anyone actually included Self in their bankruptcy? I see so many people posting about using them after to help build their credit but never seen someone actually include them when filing.
Welcome @teganski
You can dispute Self. No negative info can be reported after filing or DC'ed on your reports. Or wait one more month. It might update then.
Self was the worst when it came to updating my records. After weeks of them not updating I called and they closed my account. Except they marked it as closed by consumer- which meant they kept charging late fees and interest. It was all resolved once my discharge went through but it was definitely and annoying situation to deal with!
Thank you for your reply @-Furbz- ! You're the first person I've seen who actually included them with bankruptcy. Ironically today they closed and included the credit builder loan on TransUnion finally but they've left the maxed out secured card on there. Lol that's literally the last thing that needs to zero out and note included.
Did you call after discharge or before? I'm afraid to call now bc it's not technically discharged yet so I'm sure that's why they are taking their sweet time.
Thank you for the welcome @FireMedic1 ! I've been reading a lot of your advice on different posts for the past few months and I appreciate your time to share some with me 😊
Self removed their credit loan thing today (along with their negative info reported after filing) and now I'm just waiting on them to remove the secured card. Some progress is better than no progress at least!
