should I repay nfcu

I won't be discharged for another month so I'm only doing research at this point. I keep seeing how great NFCU is and from my experience with their credit cards and a couple different car loans they're pretty good.

So my question is... Should I repay navy federal credit union the 4700 I discharged? If not, who is just as good as NFCU for decent car loan rates and high limit cards?

Re: should I repay nfcu

If NFCU was part of the discharge, the only way they will even look your way is to repay the debt back and even then there will be restrictions on the account for awhile. Otherwise, their is Penfed, DCU and Alliant which offer good rates. Penfed offers more high limit cards though, but as you know you have a long way before that happens. Just focus on repairing your credit now and taking your time and the good car loan rates and high limit cards will come in time. You can worry about NFCU later, once your score is better and you have positive revolving lines after your BK. Im looking forward to seeing you have a great rebuild.

THANK YOU!! I'm putting the cart before the horse arent I? Haha

I dont know my other scores but according to wells Fargo my fico 9 is 682 (I'm hoping this isn't a fako score even if it is a less used score). I'm ignoring credit wise and credit karma fako scores (thanks to the nice people in this forum setting me straight).

My first REAL app will be to cap one. They pre qualified me online for two cards. I cant remember which ones.. I figured I'd look more into them if they are still offered in a month when I discharge.

No Problem, thats a great score also considering you havent even been discharged yet. Capital one is a great bank to start with, and will grow with you, and discover is also BK friendly, to begin your rebuild with.

Re: should I repay nfcu

I burned discover in bankruptcy. I tried but they didnt pre qualify me for anything... I'll keep trying every once in a while though.

I wish my scores were my fako scores... over 700!! Haha I'm guessing that waiting over a year to file BK and then during that time keeping mortgage and student loans on time helped me. So I started the climb back up over the past year. At least that's my theory and I'm crossing my fingers that it doesnt back track and drop again.

Not quite. Waiting a year added 1yr of intrest which will hurt you more come tax time. Student loans by the government are not dischargable in BK in most cases. Mortgage company would not care as long as you kept paying them and/or did reaffirmation paperwork. You are also missing out on a year of BK on your credit history. If you know you will file a BK then make sure you do it sooner testimationhan later.

Re: should I repay nfcu

I doubt they will give you $4700 worth of benefits a different credit union will not.

Put it behind you and start fresh.

Re: should I repay nfcu

My student loans are current... remark says "closed due to transferred".. due to disability discharge. Although the credit wise app says the bankruptcy remark was added... I dont see it anywhere. So when I'm discharged I'll pull my reports from myfico and make sure BK isnt on my student loans since they arent part of it.

Yeah I should have filed sooner but I was hoping not to. It was a delusional hope.

Yes I lost a year of getting the BK over and waiting out the 10 years but that has nothing to do with how I plummeted score wise just like I would have if I had filed and then rose back up to my current fico 9 score which most people dont have while still waiting on discharge.

As far as my mortgage it's marked as current but they're refusing to report anything since I filed. So, I'm reaffirming so my good acts will report. Yes I understand why most people dont reaffirm but my mortgage is 60k and I bought the house before the last decline and the house didnt go down in value then so I'm not so afraid of that. Plus it's a cheap house... not like I could ever be way upside down anyway.

Oh another thing is I have a card showing up as current and open... even though when I go online to the acct it says no available credit. I dont know what that's about but I'll take it since its helping credit utilization to stay at 0.

Re: should I repay nfcu

What taxes are you referring to? From what I've read what I discharge in bankruptcy isnt considered income.. I just file a special form.
