AA Aviator Approval

After 5 or so denials, I finally got an approval from archnemesis B4rclays! Not all were denials for this particular card, but a combination of personal and business AA and JetBlue applications. Figured if I got to half a dozen, I'd stop the self-inflicting trauma 😅

Granted, my previous denials were understandable. Until about a couple of months ago, I'd been at 13/24 or higher. A big chunk of those accounts dropped together because of a spree from 2 years ago.

Approval was not automatic. I forgot I had all my reports frozen 🤦🏻‍♂️. I called the recon line a couple of days later and talked to a very pleasant analyst, which was actually refreshing based on calls for past denials. Short 'interview' about credit profile and business, etc.

Total SL $25k. Initial approval was $15k, but asked to move CL from a dormant personal card and close it.

5/24 personal + 6/24 business

TU around 760

9 INQs

SUB: 75k miles for $1k spend

Re: AA Aviator Approval

Congrats.  I just had my last denial a week ago for the same card with similar profile with less new cards.  5th try maybe?  I might call recon but otherwise I'm giving up on them.  I already have the Citi AA business and while they have 4-5 cards I'd get simply for the SUB they have none I want to keep long term.

Tenacity? DW would've used a much different word 😂

Truth is, because of all the previous denials, I ended up getting both the personal and business Citi AA cards. I still haven't figured out what I'm going to do, but most likely, I'll upgrade to the Citi AA Exec card and keep this business card. The earnings on office supplies, 5% bonus and EQDs make it a better match than Citi's.

Re: AA Aviator Approval

First of all congrats on you approval! Seems that persistence and a little gardening paid off.

Secondly thank you, as I was recently looking through all the Barclays related post for some DP's on this and the Hawaiian card.

As I too recenlty fell below 5/24, and had previously been denied for this card at 6/24 a year or so ago. So the more recent DP's are very welcome! My TU is also 760ish, and only 3/24 with 6 INQ, 3 BIZ. So I was thinking that I might have chance now, then again this is Barclays. Smiley Indifferent

Thanks! I really had little faith after being shot down so many times. On top of that, I figured it was probably a bad time due to the pandemic and all. But, I also didn't care so what's another HP, right?

My last denial was kinda recent. I thought I was at 5/24 but I forgot accounts drop from the count at month 25. I made the mistake of counting 24 months, and analyst told me I had 9 accounts in the last 2 yrs. They wouldn't budge at all even after pointing out the opening dates of those accounts were over the 2 year mark 😒

Anyway, I hope you get approved for whatever card you're after! Best of luck!

Re: AA Aviator Approval

Ah interesting info, and thanks again for another DP. My 2 recent account fall offs are at 2yr, 1mo, so I might wait it out a little longer to be sure.
