I have an American Express card currently. I've had the account for about seven months now. I am looking to get my first business card for my company, but I do not want a hard pull right now because I am looking to purchase a home soon. I heard that once you are in the American Express system, they do not do a hard pull for any new products. I called American Express to confirm that and was transferred to three different departments and none of them could confirm that a hard pull would not be done when I applied for the business card. Just for reference, I am already preapproved for pretty much every personal card on the website, if that matters . So if I want to apply for the business card, and don't want a hard pull, should I freeze my credit report and then apply? If they need a hard pull and my reports are frozen they will just decline it, and I may apply at a later date, right? Is this a good plan? Are there any negative repercussions for doing this?
As a general guideline once you become an AMEX customer most of the time future apps are SPs from your credit report via the EX score AMEX has on file with you that you can check for yourself on your online account. This is not to be confused with the free Vantage score they're pushing lately but the FICO 8 version you can still get from them. This does not mean they won't HP you as a few reports of people getting hard pulls have happened on occasion but odds are good you will not be. If AMEX gives you a 7-10-14 day notice once you apply it probably means you need to unfreeze whichever credit report they need access to to complete your application. With that you can basically let the app pass if you don't want to get a HP and wait it out
Personally, if you're in the middle of a purchasing a house, the new business card can wait, and don't want to take the small chance they may hard pull your reports I'd hold off til you are done with the process of buying your new home. Their business cards will still be there waiting for you when you're ready to apply

1. Just put it out of your mind, since you're planning to buy a home soon. Wait until afterwards.
2. No you should not freeze your reports.
3. There is no guarantee that there won't be a hard pull when you apply for a subsequent Amex card. That's why no one can guarantee it to you because they would be lying. It would be unusual, but not unheard of. So if you can't take the hard pull, then just forget about it.
@DaWhole9 Don't rush . . . just wait until after you close on your new home. It might be a soft pull and it also might be a hard pull . . . I wouldn't risk it . . . Best wishes in making the best decision!!!
They only soft pull.

This is not accurate, occasionally AMEX will do a HP when an existing cardmember applies for a new account.
