Chase Inc Plus pended - input appreciated

Hi All,

First time poster here - thanks for the great community.

So I applied for a Chase Ink Plus. My chances of approval were very good ; 780 FICO, 1 new card in last year, no derogs, 15 year biz with decent cash flow low credit utilization. The app got pended which seems to be the norm.  Despite the common "do not call" advice (read that later),  I called in and was told that the app was on hold for ID verification.  I later got a letter confirming this with the requirements needed to pass.

Here's the tricky bit: For this business mailing address, we use a PO Box that our accountant regularly checks to handle the finance/taxes/etc.  For my personal snail mail, I use a mail processing service that scans & emails my incoming letters and gives me the option to forward them to whatever address I choose.  I use the service because it keeps me organized and I’m traveling constantly.  I’ve used this address for everything including credit applications in the past and there has never been an ID problem since the address is in my credit report.

Anyway, for the business address in the Chase app, I also used my mail service since they said that PO boxes delay the ap process.  This turned out to be a bad move because it triggered the verification since that address isn't’ in the credit report.

The verification department first gave me a verification quiz based on my previous residences - I passed that.  Then they asked me to fax  proof of my personal and biz address giving me a list of accepted sources.  I chose to mail in my business EIN declaration from the IRS and my drivers license.  I called in a week later to confirm and they said that I passed and to check the mail for a decision.  Two days after that, I received letter but instead of a card they are requesting further proof.  This time they want proof of physical address (biz and personal) dated in the last three months.  For biz, they want government docs and for personal utility bills.. Everyone in my office works from home so the only thing attached to the PO box is IRS mailings which we’ve already sent it (but more than 3 months old).  Hopefully the accountant will find something.  For the utility bills and my personal address, I don’t have anything currently in my name.  I’ve offered to scan my passport, IRS mailings, bank statements, etc but none of this is on their list.  So it seems a shame to give up the card when I am indeed the applicant.  The problem with the verification process is that it seems outsourced and they can pretty much only follow a script and standard procedure.

Does anyone has advice on what I should do?

Seriously, although the verification is for your own protection that is a bit much coming from Chase.  It seems they have different people handling your application.  Here is what you need to do.

Before sending anything else in, go into a Chase branch near you and speak to business banker.  They will be able to call the lending department directly and see why the need for all these docs after you passed the first verification successfully.  That is your best chance of speeding this up.

Keep us posted on results.

Thanks

Still, I'm going to have our accountant walk in with the case number, articles or incorporation and any recent bills.  It's not as good as a personal visit but it's probably better  than mailing/faxing the stuff.  If she explains that I'm away on business, she should be able to at least clear the business identity problem.  It's worth a try anyway don't you think?  I don't know if I should also give her copies of my passport, drivers license, etc and see if she can clear up that part.  I'm sure my personal idenitty isn't the real problem though and I if applied for the chase sapphire (I'm pre-approved) I'd get the card without an issue like I did with Amex a few months ago.

Thanks again for the post - I'll update here when there's something to report.

You are welcome.  Don't give her copies of your license, passport etc.  Since everything is in your name, she should probably fax the documents than going in unless there are clear instructions that she will be doing things on your behalf.

Do you bank with Chase at all?  Or do you just have credit cards?

Hmmm, so you think she shouldn't even go in for the business documents? She has all the original docs and deals with all of our banking and taxes on a regular basis.

This would be my first relationship with Chase. My company uses BofA right now due banking and credit cards.

Is her name on your business accounts? Just curious.  If you really want her to on in, call Chase ahead so that they are not suspicious and think something sinister is going on. That is the only reason why I say for her not to go in.

Put yourself in the bankers shoes. A woman walks in and tells you she is a CPA and is representing this business owner who applied for a business card and is out of the country.  So she is doing things on your behalf.

What would you think  as the banker if that applicant isn't an account holder and does not have a relationship with the bank?  I bet you'd be suspicious as well. So call Chase before you send her in and let them know you are out of the country/

Re: Chase Inc Plus pended - input appreciated

I just wanted to post an update.

So I decided to give it one last try before sending someone in.  I first faxed in more documents - pretty much everything we had.  Two days later I called the fraud department.  At first the rep said that she received the fax but need to verify my business and home address further.  By this point I had:sent in  tax documents, phone bills & drivers license as well as passed the security check questions and the phone text message test.  I reponded by saying that we pretty much reached the end of the line and it would be a shame for me to walk away when it was pretty clear to everyone that I was indeed the applicant.    The rep got the suprevisor and then told me that we were going to figure this out and get me verified on this call.  .. and after 45 minutes, we did.

At the end I got approved for 21K.  I'm not sure if that's high enough but it's a good start and a much better card then the BofA one we currently use.  Thanks for the input and I'm happy to report that this story had a happy ending.

  Congrats!

I'm sure you will use it heavy and they are decent with auto-increases with heavy use/big payments.   Glad it worked out (was a chore, lol).
